George Clooney is a man of taste.
The 60-year-old superstar isn’t just one of Hollywood’s best-dressed men, a supplier of exceptionally fine tequila and one of the few celebrities whose activism is truly meaningful and not just a performative masquerade – he is also awesome watches.
Of course, it helps that he’s an OMEGA ambassador, but when it comes to his taste for watches, he’s pretty selective. He doesn’t choose one of OMEGA’s most famous watches, the Speedmaster Professional ‘Moonwatch’, or one of their most expensive pieces, like the six-figure De Ville Tourbillon. In fact, his favorite watch is one of the most underrated OMEGA models: the Seamaster Aqua Terra.
He seems to particularly like the black-dialed 150M Master Chronometer version of the timepiece, having been spotted wearing it numerous times this week. First, he wore it on the red carpet in London on Monday at the premiere of The tender bar, the coming-of-age drama film he directed that stars Ben Affleck (as you can see above).
Then, yesterday in New York City, he was spotted wearing the watch on a casual stroll through Central Park, demonstrating not only his love for the watch, but also its impressive versatility.
First introduced in 2002, the Seamaster Aqua Terra is a somewhat odd watch that escapes easy characterization. Many watch experts have called it OMEGA’s answer to the Datejust from their perennial rival Rolex, but the reality is that the Aqua Terra is more unusual than that.
Where the Datejust is a fairly pure dress watch, the Aqua Terra sits halfway between a dress watch and a tool watch: it is more dressy than the popular Seamaster Diver 300M or Planet Ocean, but it is much more. sporty than the other watches in the (admittedly vast) Seamaster collection. Perhaps because of this, it is often overlooked by watch buyers – which is a shame, as it is a very versatile watch, as Clooney demonstrates.

There are dozens of different variations of the Aqua Terra: quartz and automatic movements; lots of different dial colors all with this cool teak effect design; stainless steel and precious metals; and with metal bracelets, leather bracelets and rubber numbers. Clooney’s, with its black dial and steel construction, is one of the more understated iterations of the watch – but still a pretty good looking piece.
Honestly, we don’t understand why the Aqua Terra isn’t getting more press. It’s a cool and versatile watch that offers great value for money from one of the best watchmakers in the business. Hopefully Clooney’s co-signing could help more fans wake up …
