Dreams, travels and imagination have always played an important role in the creation of a Hermès timepiece, such as the Watches & Wonders 2022 watch.
This year, at Watches & Wonders 2022, the stylish watchmaker once again amazes us with his marvelous interpretation of the world time complication (the brand’s first) and the dreamy craft timepieces of the Arceau line.
Arceau Traveling time
The highlight of this year at Hermès is undoubtedly the Arceau Le temps voyageur, the house’s first world time complication with a touch of originality. The “Travelling time” mechanism was developed exclusively for Hermès by watch movement specialist Chronode, who created a disc-type display of 24 time zones, which revolves around a world map imagined by artist Jérôme Colliard. for the “Planisphere of an equestrian mount” scarf.
The satellite mechanism recalls the rotating discs of the magnificent Arceau L’heure de la lune of 2019, cementing this poetic display as a new signature of Hermès watchmaking.
The mobile counter (displaying the travel time) and the home time indication at 12 o’clock are driven by a 122-component module integrated into the Hermès H1837 self-winding mechanical movement. Two Arceau Le temps voyageur models are available: a 41 mm-diameter platinum version with a matt black DLC-treated titanium bezel and a 38 mm-diameter steel version with a blue dial.
Arceau The follies of the sky
Another tribute to travel and to the sky, the Arceau Les folies du ciel. The design of the Arceau watch, by Henri d’Origny in 1978, is the perfect canvas for Hermè’s crafts. Inspired by Loïc Dubigeon’s “Les folies du ciel” scarf, created in 1984, the watch pays homage to aerostatics and captures humanity’s first moments of flight.
This almost impossible to imagine dream is captured by the artisans of Hermès in painting, engraving and animation. On the mother-of-pearl dial, two pink and green neoralite hot air balloons float in the wind. The two balloons are attached to a hand-painted white gold gondola in the shape of a bird (original symbol of travel and migration). At 12 o’clock is another hand-painted and applied animated balloon. The ball works like a balance and rotates on its axis with the wrist movements of the wearer. The 38mm white gold watch is limited to 24 pieces only.
Pocket Horse Punk Headband
Engraving, enameling and Haute Horlogerie come together in a one-of-a-kind minute repeater tourbillon pocket watch, with a punk horse motif designed by Daiske Nomura in 2021 for a men’s silk scarf. The Japanese illustrator was inspired by a figurine from the Emile Hermès collection. It took hundreds of hours for Hermès’ master engraver to bring the silhouette to life before the dial was painted and shaped in champlevé enamel. The 48mm white gold case houses the H1924 minute repeater tourbillon movement.
