Pokemon Go: Who are all the best Pokemon for the Kanto Cup?

Welcome to our ‘Pokemon Go: Who are all the best Pokemon for the Kanto Cup?’ guide. One of the biggest Kanto Cup teams in Pokemon Go is Lickitung, Nidoqueen, and Hypno, as they are three of the strongest skilled competitors that can cover most opponents. That’s not to say that this team will always lead you to guaranteed success, because it always depends on the types of Pokemon your opponent sends out – and you’ll never know until a fight has already started.

There are a few Pokemon that are strong in almost any circumstance, however, we’ve listed five below with their biggest moves and weaknesses to watch out for.

Pokemon Go: Lickitung (XL)

  • Quick movement: lick
  • Charged Move: Body Slam and Power Whip
  • Resistors: Ghost
  • Weaknesses: Fighting

Lickitung played in the Love Cup and now it’s time for the Kanto Cup. It costs XL Candy and a Legacy Move (an Elite Charged TM), but it’s worth it.

The only good Fast Move is Lick. Body Slam is the declared Legacy Move, and it does good damage for a cheap cost. You can also purchase Power Whip for additional coverage.

Pokemon Go: Nidoqueen

  • Quick Hit: Poison Jab
  • Charged Attack: Poison Fang and Earth Might
  • Resistances: Bug, Electric, Fairy, Fighting, Poison, and Rock
  • Weaknesses: Ground, Ice, Psychic and Water

Nidoqueen is a strong contender for the Kanto Cup, having beaten Machamp, Alolan Marowak, and most normal types. Regular Nidoqueen has a small edge, but Shadow Nidoqueen isn’t far behind.

Poison Fang generates the most energy among Nidoqueen’s fast moves, so get it. It’s best to use Poison Fang as your main charged move and Earth Power as your backup.

Pokemon Go: Piggeot

  • Fast travel: burst
  • Charged Moves: Feather Dance and Brave Bird
  • Resistances: Bug, Ghost, Grass and Ground
  • Weaknesses: Electric, Ice and Rock

With wins likely against Lickitung, Snorlax, Hypno and Wigglytuff, Pidgeot is one of the best performers in the Kanto Cup.

Pidgeot works best with Gust as a fast move, so an Elite Fast TM is recommended. Brave Bird can follow up with huge STAB damage, while Feather Dance is weak but guarantees a -2 attack debuff.

Pokemon Go: Hypnosis

  • Quick Move: Confusion
  • Charged Moves: Fire Punch and Shadow Ball
  • Resistances: combat and psychic
  • Weaknesses: Bug, Darkness and Ghost

Hypno has one of the most diverse movesets in Pokemon Go, allowing it to thrive in many low CP cups. He has the highest performance of all Psychic types in the Kanto Cup.

To make Hypno work, you will need Confusion as a fast move. For the Kanto Cup, the best cover choices are Fire Punch and Shadow Ball.

Pokemon Go: Alolan Sandslash

  • Quick Attack: Shadow Claw
  • Charged Moves: Ice Punch and Bull Doze
  • Resistances: Dragon, Psychic, Normal, Grass, Insect, Flying, Fairy, Ice and Poison
  • Weaknesses: combat, fire and ground

Alolan Sandslash is one of the few ice-types that qualified for the Kanto Cup. Nidoqueen, Dragonair, Alolan Ninetails, and Wigglytuff can all be defeated by Alolan Sandslash with nine resistances.

Shadow Claw has more potential than Powder Snow, although both are great fast moves. Charged Moves: Ice Punch is vital for immediate damage, while Bull Doze provides backup cover.
