Sponsored: Inspired by an 80s classic, Citizen highlights the Promaster Eco-Drive Diver 200m | Viewing time

2021 has been a big year for the Citizen Promaster Eco-Drive diver’s watch collection, with the brand advancing its professional line with a number of new models, including the popular Promaster Eco-Drive Aqualand 200m which debuted at last spring. This week Citizen highlights a lesser-known addition to the collection launched this year, with a renewed focus on two new models launched as part of the Promaster Eco-Drive Diver 200m series.

The 2021 pair of Promaster Eco-Drive watches each feature the same basic design, differing only in the use of blue accents and the other’s green, though both feature a natural pattern inspired by camouflage. Apart from the colourway and interesting dial, both opt for a vintage, function-oriented style that effectively captures the attention of anyone looking for an unusual and utilitarian dive watch. In this regard, the duo follows in the footsteps of the original CITIZEN diver’s watch from 1982 from which they were primarily inspired, this iconic watch at its launch reaching the record at the time for the highest depth rating for a watch. diving in the world – 1,300 meters.

Like the vintage design that inspired modern styling, the new pair of Promaster Eco-Drive watches feature a lug-less case silhouette, with four distinct bezel guards and large indentations on the rotating bezel giving them a look. bold and distinctive. A sandblasted, Super Titanium Duratect-MRK and DLC coated case gives the 46.5mm watches a dark tint, which, when paired with the blue or green camouflage pattern on the dial, helps to present a prominent watch on the wrist with a bit of of serious rugged and sporty appeal.

At a glance, the new watches offer an updated and modern take on the unique and globally unique classic of 1982, with modern examples opting for the same rounded and bulky case shape to present watches that are no less striking, but very portable thanks to their reduced thickness at the wrist for better support. Other notable improvements can be seen on the camouflage dials of the watches, which, in addition to featuring modern colourways and patterns, also provide improved visibility of the hands and bezel, and in fact offer a more refined interpretation of the design. original and daring from the 80s.

As their name suggests, each of the new Promaster Eco-Drive Diver 200m watches is powered by an Eco-Drive movement, in this case the E168 caliber. This means that watches that are water resistant to 200 meters and that comply with the ISO standard do not require regular battery replacement because they are powered by light. This type of movement also allows the watches to retain their power for up to 6 months in a row between exposures to light sources, while maintaining a quartz precision of +/- 15 seconds per month.

The two new Promaster Eco-Drive Diver 200m watches are available now, priced at $ 550. Since both models are partly inspired by nature, a portion of the proceeds from their sales will support the marine conservation activities of Conservation International, an international NGO dedicated to protecting the essential benefits that nature offers to humans. Through science, partnerships and fieldwork, a Citizen group has supported since launching its Save the BEYOND campaign in 2019.
