It was Hall Win (Kevin Maguire), the 2021 Quebec champion, who took the lead, followed by XOXO and driver Jérôme Lombart. They sped the first quarter in :29.3 and were nearly at the first corner when Hall Win made an unusual break in stride and was knocked out of the course by Maguire.

Luckily for XOXO, she was unaffected by the breaking horse and continued in the lead for Lombart until the half mile in 1:00.4. She was followed in the pocket by Archimed Alpha and the driver Pascal Bérubé.

While racing down the backstretch, Berube pulled out of the pocket trip with Archimed Alpha and came in first after XOXO with 6/5 race favorite PC Heisenberg (Marie-Claude Auger) after the second behind Archimed Alpha by three-quarters in 1h30.4.

Coming down the stretch, it was all XOXO, who held off their male rivals, winning by two lengths in 2:01. Archimed Alpha finished second with PC Heisenberg third.

XOXO REPLAY

XOXO is a four year old mare by Angus Hall, trained by Andreane Lapiere. She was raised and owned by Lombart de Bromont. She paid $23.30 to win. It was his first win of the season in two starts.

Another upset nearly came in the seventh Perferred-Handicap Pace race as 12-1 Mickeymaksomespeed nearly withstood 1/9 of the nation’s favorite debt.

It was Mickeymaksomespeed and pilot Kiwon Waldron who started from post five and were alone in the lead in the first quarter mile in:28. Radley Hanover (Steeve Genois) made the pocket trip.

Heading into the half mile, National Debt and driver Pascal Berube started first with Siddhartha (Samuel Fillion) following second as Lombart gave XOXO a break at the half mile in :58.

National Debt kept the pressure on the backstretch, taking the lead after three quarters in 1:26.4. Mickeymaksomespeed couldn’t keep pace with National Debt as they won by a length and a half in 1:55.4. Siddhartha finished third.

NATIONAL DEBT REPLAY

It was the fourth win this year for National Debt, an 11-year-old Allamerican Native stallion. He is trained by Yves Tessier for owner François Morin of Beauceville. He paid just $2.10 to win.

Track notes: Pascal Berube again led all drivers at the H3R on Sunday with another hat-trick at the wheel. Daniel Laflamme scored a brace with both wins coming from the barn of Eric Milot, who led all coaches with his two wins.
